Newspapers seem to be suggesting that I believe I understand life in the American ghetto. I do not understand life in the American ghetto. I have never lived there so how could I possibly?
As you may have guessed, what I said was taken out of context.
I was explaining how I got into rap music when I was 11. Because I had a political background, from a young age, I was socially aware and understood that some people lived in areas in the US referred to as “the Ghetto” – a common theme in the music. I understood that the content of the tracks were political, which I found fascinating because of my political background.
